Neighbors Helping Neighbors in Lancaster

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul has been helping people in need since 1833.
Today, its local conferences bring faith into action by offering friendship, prayer,
and practical assistance to neighbors facing difficult circumstances.

The St. John Neumann Conference, established in 2017, serves people in
Lancaster City and the immediate surrounding communities. Our Vincentians
personally visit neighbors who ask for help, listening to their circumstances and
walking with them through times of crisis. The home visit has been at the heart of
the Society’s ministry since its founding.

We provide financial assistance for essential needs including rent and housing,
utilities, prescriptions and healthcare costs, adult education, automobile
expenses, and other necessities. Assistance is provided without expectation of
repayment.

Today, eviction prevention is our greatest priority and need. Approximately 90%
of the calls we receive have involved neighbors facing evictions. A relatively
small amount of assistance at the right time can help keep a family safely housed
and prevent a temporary financial setback from becoming a much larger crisis.

financial assistance—it provides a compassionate visit, a listening ear, prayer,
and the reassurance that they are not facing a difficult time alone.
