Columbia Dream Center

The Columbia Dream Center (CDC) is a faith-based, community-focused nonprofit serving Columbia, Pennsylvania, and the surrounding communities. Our focused ministry is meeting people where they are and helping address the practical, emotional, and spiritual needs that often accompany poverty, hunger, homelessness, and crisis.

The Columbia Dream Center began in 2009 under the name “Hands Across the Street”, with a heart to serve individuals and families in need throughout the Columbia community. In 2022, the organization became known as the “Columbia Dream Center”, expanding its vision and services to become a place where people could find not only immediate assistance, but also hope, dignity, relationships, and a pathway toward stability.

Today, the Columbia Dream Center operates as an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, separate from Columbia Presbyterian Church. We provide a variety of services under one roof, including an adult shelter, Restart Day Center, food pantry, soup kitchen, clothing bank, case management, outreach, community meals, and seasonal programs for children and families. We strive to be a “one-stop” resource for individuals who may otherwise have to visit multiple organizations to meet their basic needs.

Our mission is “To serve the people of Columbia and the surrounding area who come seeking assistance toward a better life by filling needs and healing hurts”.  We believe every person deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their circumstances. Our ministry is faith-dependent and rooted in the belief that when we find a need, we fill it, and when we find a hurt, we help heal it. We desire to connect people with the resources, relationships, encouragement, and opportunities they need to move from crisis toward stability and ultimately toward the dreams God has placed within them.

The Columbia Dream Center became an independent 501(c)(3) organization in 2026 and received its own EIN. Prior to becoming an independent organization, the ministry’s history and operations were connected with Columbia Presbyterian Church.

We are committed to partnering with churches, businesses, nonprofits, volunteers, and community organizations because we believe lasting change happens when the community comes together. Our goal is not simply to provide a meal, a bed, or a bag of groceries, but to build relationships and walk alongside people as they work toward a better life.

The Columbia Dream Center is also a member and participant in local and regional community networks and partnerships that strengthen our ability to connect those we serve with additional resources and support.

$100 — Helps provide essential clothing, food, and supportive services to those working toward stability.
$250 — Helps support our shelter ministry, providing a safe place, meals, and care for individuals experiencing homelessness.
$500 — Helps sustain our food ministries, including the Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry, serving hundreds of people in our community.
$1,000 — Helps provide comprehensive support through food, shelter, clothing, and case management for people working toward a better life.
$2,500 — Helps strengthen the Columbia Dream Center’s ability to meet urgent needs and provide hope, dignity, and pathways toward stability.
