Cause Profile:

The mission of Warwick Released Time (WRT) is to plant the seed of God’s Word in young hearts by offering a variety of experiences to foster spiritual growth, nurture Christian character, and build relationships. The program administers a standard, non-denominational curriculum that emphasizes the beliefs that Christians commonly share. This two-year optional program is available to 3rd and 4th graders in Warwick School District. Students, with parental permission, are released from school for one hour per week during the school year. The program is permitted by the School Code of Pennsylvania, “time period one hour a week not to exceed 36 hours a school year of religious instruction outside of school property.” The Warwick School District is not responsible for Released Time programming.

The 3rd grade students study the lives and character of Old Testament people. The 4th graders study the life and parable of Jesus. Each lesson explores how to apply what was learned to daily life. All students are given a Bible to use. The 4th grade students are gifted the Bible at the end of their 4th grade year of WRT.

WRT started in 1965 when churches in the community wanted to give parents the opportunity to enroll their children in a program that provided religious instruction during the school day. It continues today and just celebrated its 60th year. The Board consists of volunteers from local churches. There are approximately 170 children attending WRT this year during their lunch period and over 40 people involved in making WRT happen each week. Local churches in the community open their doors to host the students as they learn Biblical truths.

We continue to trust God to bring students and staff to WRT. Because of His faithfulness, the program continues and we look forward to seeing what He will do in the future.
