Milandila Community Missions

OUR MISSION:
To empower physical and spiritual wellness through healthcare, education, evangelism, and discipleship.

OUR BEGINNING:
Milandila began when James and Morgan Tumwesiigye felt called to serve the village of Lusanja, Luwero district. After interning at the government hospital, Morgan was shocked the deplorable conditions and lack of compassionate care, especially for women. Morgan’s training as a midwife was coupled with James’s gifts of evangelism and spiritual/cultural understanding of his own Ugandan people to create a pregnancy clinic to be used as a platform to share the Gospel. In 2021, they founded Milandila Community Missions, named after the Bantu word for “root” or “foundation.” Our goal is to ensure that women and families in Uganda are deeply rooted—physically, spiritually, and relationally—in Jesus Christ and in one another.

OUR PRACTICES:
Last year we served over 313 women, welcoming 5-10 new mothers each week. Many of these women are teenage, single, and Muslim women facing illiteracy, poverty, sex trafficking, AIDS, abuse, and unemployment. They are supported during their pregnancy through weekly visits and then postpartum once a month for six months. At each check-in point, relationships grow stronger and the Gospel is made clearer as a pathway for discipleship is built.

GOD’S IMPACTS
Through the Milandila Family Center, women receive compassionate prenatal and postnatal care, education, and consistent exposure to the Gospel.

But numbers only tell part of the story. Every woman who walks through our doors hears the Gospel. Many hear about Jesus for the very first time. Each year, dozens of women (and often their family members) choose to follow Christ. They find healing from sexual, physical, and emotional abuse, discover healthy relationships, and build a Christ-centered community of mothers who support one another. This is Gospel transformation in action.

STRATEGIC EXPANSION
By God’s grace, Milandila is entering a pivotal season of growth. In additional to the original Family Center, Milandila has opened one of the only Women’s & Babies’ Hospitals in Uganda. This has dramatically increasing our capacity to serve mothers and newborns with excellence, dignity, and faith-centered care.

We have plans for a Coffee Shop which will employ women at a fair wage, provide work/life balance for mothers, create relational spaces for discipleship, and move the ministry toward long-term sustainability by serving visiting travelers.

In addition, a planned Demonstration Farm will improve nutrition for pregnant and lactating women, provide agricultural training, create a guaranteed market for surplus produce (to supply the coffee shop), and strengthen families, while opening new doors for Gospel conversations. Each initiative works together—healthcare, employment, food security, and discipleship—rooted in Christ and building relationships to share the Gospel.
