Cause Profile:

North Star Initiative advocates for and supports survivors of sex trafficking by providing physical, psychological, emotional, educational, and spiritual development through a Christ-centered focus. When Jen Sensenig noticed a massage parlor in her neighborhood, her concern led her to get involved in reaching the women who worked there. Eventually, she collaborated with law enforcement to expose a trafficking ring, but as she continued to lead a grassroots movement to expose trafficking in Lancaster County, she quickly realized there was nowhere for women to go once they were released from the Life. North Star was incorporated in 2010 and opened the Harbor Home in 2017, the first long-term restoration program for trafficking survivors in the area. On July 1, 2024, we acquired F.R.E.E. in Berks County, and North Star now operates two shelters–one in Lancaster County and one in Berks County—with the capacity to serve 12-14 women with comprehensive, wrap-around support for their healing and growth and 24/7 care from skilled staff. Operating one restoration program at two sites allows us to combine resources and increase mission impact, reaching more survivors with opportunities to thrive as God intends. We are deeply committed to ending trafficking in our area and restoring the lives of those who have been affected, knowing that this is the Father’s heart and his Kingdom work. We are accredited by ECFA.
