Our Home of Hope is a Personal Care Facility located in the heart of Columbia’s historic district. It provides a warm, welcoming home-like environment to individuals with intellectual/mental health disabilities in need of supportive care in an atmosphere that embraces all aspects of Christian compassion. As a faith-based organization, Our
Home of Hope believes that every individual has been created by God and is deserving of respect and dignity. We provide this environment for people who no longer have the support of family and friends.
Our Home of Hope has filled a “gray area” between costly long-term care facilities and traditional nursing homes. The building accommodates 30 residents who are in overall good health and function at a relatively high level. However, due to their limitations, those we serve are economically disadvantaged and would be unlikely to thrive in the outside world.
The former Cherry Street Guest Home was established in 2001 as a private personal care home. In 2016, while visiting a friend, Mable and John Hershey were called to get involved after learning about the physical and financial condition of the home. They were able to organize the home as a 501(c)3 non-profit in 2017. The Hershey’s and board of directors were instrumental in bringing the home up to industry standards and working hard to ensure the financial stability of the home. As one of our residents stated “I love it here, and I’m not leaving”. We love them and are glad they don’t have to leave thanks to generous donors like you!
Our Home of Hope, Inc. board of directors are committed to providing our residents a home where they not only live, but thrive!
