The mission of The Oaks Ministry (OM) is to provide hope, healing and restoration in a Christ-centered residential environment for women in need. OM believes that every woman can be changed by the knowledge of and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. OM strives to show the love of Christ to women who are facing difficult times and are in a transitional state of life. OM exists to provide transitional housing and support services for women who are actively working towards becoming healthy members of our community. Many of these women need significant support in order to move towards self-sufficiency. OM seeks to provide resources and tools to break the cycle of dependence. OM currently has two homes located in Oxford, PA and one home in Wakefield, PA to be used for transitional housing and Christian-based support services for women that are actively working toward financial stability. Although our homes are located in Chester County and Lancaster County, OM will consider applications from women that are not local.
In June of 2012, OM founder, Robin Martin, had a vision for this ministry. She spent several years building a foundation in the community, including connections with local churches, community leaders, non-profits, and volunteers who became founding investors in OM, known as the Leadership Team, or Board of Directors. In February 2015, The Leadership Team formed the organization legally as a 501c3 IRS non-profit corporation in the state of Pennsylvania. The Leadership Team and congregation at Media Mennonite Church (now Waterway Church) provided OM with the use of a large farmhouse on their property as the first Oaks House. The agreement made that the church for rent the house to OM for $1.00 per month and all renovation costs would be the responsibility of OM. The lease was signed in September 2015. Funds for the restoration of this home were secured in several short months, and an entire restoration of the home was completed by January 2016. OM first residents entered this home in February 2016. Once the first OM Home reached capacity, a second home was established in September 2016, which we refer to as Oaks 2. As the need continued to grow, we expanded to Lancaster County. Our 3rd home, Oaks 3 was lovingly restored with help from the community there and opened in 2023.
The Oaks Ministry provides transitional housing that are staffed by House Managers. We also provide support services that include (counseling, workshops, life skills, mentors, financial mentors and transportation to bible studies and recovery groups) to our residents in both SCC and Lancaster County. Our served population is women who are experiencing homelessness, often associated with substance use, mental health challenges and experience within the criminal justice system.
We are members of Oxford Ministerium, Parkesburg Community Churches, Oxford Chamber of Commerce, Western Chester County Chamber of Commerce, Solanco Ministerium
