FCA started in 1954 when Don McClanen, a basketball coach at Oklahoma A&M, saw the incredible influence that coaches and athletes had on the culture. Instead of using that influence for selling cars and shaving cream, he wanted them to use it to share the gospel. So Fellowship of Christian Athletes was born. Today, FCA still has the same vision, to see the world transformed by Jesus Christ through the influence of coaches an athletes. Over the last 70 years the mission, to lead every coach and athlete into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and his Church, has stayed the same. FCA has a worldwide staff of over 3000 and operates in 116 countries.
Locally in Lancaster County we have 15 staff serving 12 school districts and 2 college campuses. We are serving 21 schools and 20+ individual sports teams as well. Each year we have the privilege of serving almost 1500 coaches and athletes. As these disciples grow and make other disciples, the impact they can have is significant.
